have you ever seen the baked beans commercial about Duke the dog trying to give away the secret recipe?
this post isn’t about beans but it is about a leakage in an old family recipe handed down from ,my grandmother who made it every Christmas, who leaked it? sister! of all people! lol! for as long as I can remember when we make this recipe no ones’ ever heard of it,much less seen one but oh how they love it! what is it you ask? it takes a lot of patience to make this cake for oh so worth it,
now that sister has after all these years & people begging has posted the recipe on her face book status, shame on her! lol! it is not to be confused with a fruit cake, grand mother wouldn’t like that! lol! all this yummy goodness will run off the top & down the edges, don’t get nervous, it’s supposed to do that!
Lane Cake Recipe
1 box yellow cake mix fixed according as directed..let cool
Icing...
1 stick margarine...
1 1/2 cups sugar
6 egg yolks
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup coconut
1 cup raisins
1 small jar sliced marachino cherries (drained)
coconut/pecan icing...I use Betty Crocker about 2/3 of the little tub
In a large non stick boiler put the margarine-sugar-salt-beaten egg yolks....cook on medium heat stirring constantly until thick...about 5-8 minutes...remove from heat and add all the remaining ingredients.stirring good
put half of the mixture on top of your bottom cake layer...place the top cake layer on that and add the other half of icing on top..kinda spread it just on top...it will start to drizzle down the sides...keep cake covered in the fridge and can be frozen until you are ready for it
sister makes this every Christmas & it is worth every bite! she has mastered this recipe well and I believe grandmother would be proud! so from our Grandmother’s Kitchen to yours we hope you give this cake a try & let it become one of many of your favorite traditions as it has ours
